“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball”
-Patches O’Hoolihan |
|
Remember your middle school years? Converse shoes, friendship bracelets, french cuffed jeans, and overalls with one strap left hanging free! The middle school dance where you showed off your moves to Poison, Naughty by Nature, and slow danced to Boys II Men (that is if you were brave enough to cross the gym line). Were you “Hanging Tough” with New Kids on the Block? Do you remember all the words to “The Fresh Prince of Belair?
Were you the king/queen of kickball in your school? The infamous Dodgeball Champion?? Or did you dodge the balls in fear of getting hit?
Ready for a re-match? Think you could still beat middle schoolers in the infamous Playground games?
Well then it is time to pull out your converse shoes, gym shorts, and sweatbands and test your “old school” skills at the Open Doors Academy First Annual Dodgeball/ Kickball Tournament! |

It all started at the Tribe Game on Friday night… fortunately the rain stayed away just long enough for an Indians 12-5 win over the Kansas City Royals… AND, the biggest news of the night?!? The secret identity of KETCHUP was revealed! Here he is!
Then, Saturday morning brought lots of rain but that didn’t stop anyone from coming out to support a great cause that’s very close to my heart… The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure! Above, Nancy Alden, my “g” from our sister station WDOK, and myself on the main stage… each year we honorary co-chair the event.
One of my new friends and fan of Q104, Gabby, stopped by to say hi before she participated in the race! Isn’t it great to see people of all ages coming out to support breast cancer research? She was adorable and a trooper for being out there in the rain!!
The girls from Theta Phi Alpha! They were SO SUPER fun and fans of Q104… (if you gals are checking out this blog, email me your names so I can post them here!!! jen@q104.com)
Everyone gets warmed up by doing JAZZERCIZE!!!! Again, rain was NO ISSUE (even though it didn’t let up even once all morning)! Everyone was having a blast!
My mom is an 8 year breast cancer survivor, and she and my dad (seen above far r.) come to the race every year with me. This year my brother, Jonny, joined us to support the cause too!
Myself, Nancy Alden, and Mama Toohey!
After the race, had a little bit of downtime in the afternoon then had to get all gussied up and head down to the NATAS 39th Annual Emmy Awards at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Center. I was a presenter and boy was it fun! Although, I do have to say, the whole time I was waiting backstage to go out there in front of a room full of people all I could think about was the movie the “Bodyguard” with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner… I kept looking for a guy with a camera that doubled as a gun and guys talking into secret walkie talkies in their watches… yes, I know I’m ridiculous… it made me giggle. Abby Ham and Mark Nolan from Channel 3 were also presenters and got to hang with them backstage for a bit…

I’ve been an Idol fan for many of the seasons, and only went to the live show the year that Fantasia won. I am SO GLAD I went last night! ALL OF THEM are super talented… I swear they must be nervous on TV when they sound “pitchy”… because in real life? They all sounded flawless! It was a GREAT show… and our seats were so fantastic that I got some really great up close pix to share! After the show, I was lucky enough to get to go and meet the crew… see all the pix below. WOW. I am still in awe. I LOVED this experience.

David Cook was so gracious and friendly… took his time and talked to everyone… said we’ll hear his new music in November!

Syesha Mercado… she is so super gorgeous up close!

Michael Johns… his grandmother-in-law was in the audience sitting right behind us! He says we may hear some new music from him after the first of the year… maybe sooner!

Chikizie was WAY more soft-spoken than I would have imagined!

Jason Castro was SUPER cool… I told him that he should sing “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz… he said he wished he was the one that recorded it! So down-to-earth and friendly…

She’s tall! And MAN can that girl sing! I had goosebumps…

She was just as sweet as you would imagine…

Paula was right, Archuletta is SUPER SQUEEZEABLE! I told him that “Crush” won the Now Music Challenge 5 nights in a row on Q104 and he was so excited! He wanted to know what songs he beat!

This is just perfection… I mean, c’mon now?? DAVID COOK!

I seriously felt like a teenager when I was getting ready to go to the Poison concert last night… probably because I WAS a teenager when I was a big fan of the band! After watching the past two seasons of “Rock of Love” my love for Bret Michaels was reignited, and he did not disappoint last night! The show was GREAT!!! Here’s some pix and two short videos I took with my digital cam…

Bumped into Glenn the Funny Song Man and Brian the Prize Guy hangin’ at the show too!

Bret rose from the floor at the beginning of the show! We were all screaming so loud!
Every Rose Has It’s Thorn
“Talk Dirty To Me”… even got a shot of Glenn the Funny Song Man rockin’ out to this one!
PLUS - CHECK OUT THIS EMAIL I GOT FROM LISTENER ROBYN!! TOO COOL! SHE MET BRET!!!
Hey Jen!
Did you go to the Poison concert last night? My friend and I went - AWESOME!!!! BUT guess what Bret announced? He said - see you in January for Rock of Love 3!!!!! Can’t wait!
P.S. Went to the after party at the Barley House in Akron. We got to meet Bret and get autographed pictures. WOW u should see this pic, talk about hot! Plus he is way cuter in real life than on tv. He was so nice, down to earth and normal. Very genuinely appreciative for his fans and took time to acknowledge us, shook my hand, looked right at me as he talked to me….not just the typical celebrity, signing pics without looking, etc. Makes me like him even more. :-) My friend was hilarious - she wanted to ask him how we can be on the show! Could u imagine?!

You may have heard Allan on the Wilde and Fee show talking about his friend Brian getting married… Brian is also a good friend of mine and both he and his new wife looked absolutely amazing! Allan was in the wedding and we got to hang a bit so I wanted to post a couple of pix… A. Because Allan is lookin sharp in his wedding attire, and B. because the setting was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!
